How to Install

Print Instructions

Before you begin your installation:

Read all installation instructions!

• Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.

• Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.

• Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.

• Check the parts list shipped with the product to confirm that you have the correct number of brackets.

• Please refer to the separate valance installation instructions included with your order.

Recommended Tools

• Phillips head screwdriver

• Pencil

• Level

• Tape measure

• Safety glasses

• Drill/drill bits (1/16" drill bit may be used to pre-drill for screws)

• 1/4" Wrench (if using extension brackets)

• Hex nutdriver (optional for mounting screws)

• Drywall anchors

Optional Brackets:

Extension Brackets

(Offers clearence for obstructions) Outside mounting extension brackets will brovide 1"-3" clearance between the headrail and mounting surface. Assemble extension bracket as shown. Secure an extension bracket to each standard mounting bracket.

Step 1A
Mark the bracket locations - outside mount installation

• Position one bracket at each end of the headrail, 3" in from the ends.

• Space any remaining brackets evenly, not more than 30" apart.

• Mark the bracket mounting hole locations at the desired height, making sure they are level and square. Allow at least 1/2" clearance for vanes above the floor or sill.

Step 2A
Install the Brackets - Outside-Mount Installation

If mounting into drywall or plaster, use 3/16" drill bit and insert wall anchors before inserting screws.

Step 1B
Mark the bracket locations—inside-mount installation

• Position one bracket at each end of the headrail, 3" in from the ends.

• Space any remaining brackets evenly, not more than 30" apart.

• Mark the bracket locations, making sure they are in a straight line that is parallel to the wall.

Determining the correct distance from the wall or window: Position the center of the brackets a min. 2 7/8" in front of the window frame or any protruding trim or handles.

Step 2B
Install the brackets — inside-mount installation

Install in a wood window frame using the included screws.

For models equipped with a valance, the valance mounting clips should be installed to the headrail at this time. Please refer to the installation instructions included with your valance before proceeding.

Step 3
Attach the headrail — outside- or inside-mount

NOTE: For wide windows and sliding glass doors, two people are recommended for installing the headrail.

With the bracket positioned as shown, fit the top front lip of the headrail into the front part of the spring clip.

Tip the back of the headrail up into the spring clip until it locks with a clicking sound.

Step 4
Center the Vane Rotation

Models With Wand

Adjust the vane- rotation chain so that it is centered (ends of chain should be even). Vane clips should be at a right angle to the window (open position).

• Attach the wand.

• Rotate the wand so that the vane clips are at a right angle to the window.

Models with Vane-Rotation Chains

Adjust the vane-rotation chain so that it is centered (ends of chain should be even). Vane clips should be at a right angle to the window (open position).

Step 5
Using the vane pack hanger kit

A vane pack hanger kit is included to simplify installation and support the vanes during installation. This kit will support the vane packs while the vanes are being transferred to the headrail. Pull the wand so that all of the vane clips are stacked at the ends of the headrail.

Rotate the hanger plates into position in the headrail about 24–28 inches apart, near the vane clips.

Attach the hanger brackets onto the screw posts of the hanger plates. Tighten the wingnuts securely on the screw posts. Insert the hanger bar into the hooks on the brackets, centering it on the brackets.

Step 6
Attach the Vanes

WARNING: The vane packs can be heavy! Two people are recommended for installing the vane packs on larger windows!

Remove the twist tie(s) and any tape holding the vanes together and separate the vane packs, if you have two. Hook the vane pack onto the hanger bar using the plastic hooks as shown.

NOTE: You may wish to thread the hanger bar through the hooks BEFORE hanging the vanes.

Remove the foam shipping dividers between the vanes. One at a time, unhook the plastic hooks from the hanger bar and remove the hook from the vane by pressing it sideways.
Starting at one end, align the slot on the vane with the vane clip and press the vane up into the clip until it clicks into place. Be careful not to trap the fabric under the clip.

Repeat for the remaining vanes, being careful not to skip any clips.

HINT: If you accidentally skip a clip, carefully slide a credit card or similar flat object under the clip to help disengage it from the vane.

For models with dual stack: Once all vanes have been attached on one end of the headrail, remove the vane pack hanger kit and repeat steps 5 and 6 with the other vane pack at the other end of the headrail.

After all vanes have been installed, remove the hanger kit and discard.

Step 7
Attach the tension device (cord/chain control only)

Refer to instructions in the hold-down tension device.
Step 8
Test the Vane Rotation

Turn the wand or pull the bead chain in alternate directions to ensure that the vanes rotate smoothly in both directions.
Step 9
Test the Traverse

With the vanes in the open position (vanes at a right angle to the window), slide the wand or pull the cord in alternate directions to ensure that the vanes move smoothly in both directions.

Please refer to the valance instructions for your valance style at this time to complete your installation.

Valence Installation

Channel Valance

Step 1
Attach the valance clips to the headrail

• Slide one valance clip into each end of the headrail channel. Swivel remaining clips into headrail from above and space them evenly between the ends. Make sure clips do not interfere with the headrail mounting brackets.

Step 2
Assemble the returns (outside-mount)

• Press the corner piece into the return and then into the valance, as shown. Repeat for the other end.

Step 3
Attach the valance to the headrail

• Align the channel on the back of the valance with the tabs on the valance clips.

• Hook the top edge of the channel onto the upper tab, and pivot the valance down until it clips into place.

Fabric Valence

• Slide the returns all the way onto the corner pieces.
• Slide the valance onto the corner pieces so that the angled corners of the return and valance touch.

Step 3
Attach the valance to the headrail

• Align the channel on the back of the valance with the tabs on the valance clips. Hook the top edge of the channel onto the upper tab, and pivot the valance down until it clips into place.

Estate™ Valence

Step 1
Install the Clips on the Valence

• Determine and mark the desired mounting location for the valance clips. One clip must be placed flush at each end of the valance. Make sure clips do not interfere with the headrail mounting brackets.

• Attach the valance clips to the valance using the included wood screws, 2 wood screws per clip. Do not overtighten.

Step 2
Attach the Valence to the Headrail

• Insert the clip into the headrail channel so that the rear lip of the channel fits into the groove on the clip as shown.

• Press in on the valance and pivot it down so that the front tab on the clip engages the front lip of the headrail channel.

Step 3
Attach the finials to the Valence

• Thread the decorative finial into the center channel of the valance clip.

• Repeat for the other end.

How to Measure

Print Instructions
Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Sheers

  • Step 1

    Find Width

Measure the opening across the top where the headrail is to be installed from inside of window frame on left to inside of window frame on right. Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8". A minimum depth of 2 7/8" is needed to install inside the window.

  • Step 2

    Find Height

Measure from the inside top of the opening on the left, at the center, and on the right to the sill; round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8" and note the smallest dimension. Do not make any allowances: the factory will make all adjustments so the headrail will fit the opening properly and the vanes will clear the sill by 1/4" to 1/2".

    Minimum Mounting Depth*
Minimum Depth to Install 2 7/8"
    Flush Mount Headrail 3 1/2"
Flush Mount Vanes and Fabric Folds (Pleats) 6 1/4"
Flush Mount Channel Valance 4 1/8"
Flush Mount Fabric Wrap Valance 5 1/2"

NOTE: Estate Valance not available inside mount.

*Minimum mounting depth is the depth required, in the window frame, for the blind to be mounted inside mount.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Sheers

  • Step 1

    Find Width

Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8". Blind should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy. To maintain the maximum view, allow adequate overlap and consider the stack width.

  • Step 2

    Find Height

Measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8". Blind should extend at least 3" above and 3" below opening or window moulding. For ceiling-to-floor installations, make adequate allowance for carpeting. Specifying outside mount measurement means the factory makes no allowances.

    Notes
Blinds installed on windows near wall or baseboard heaters must clear the heaters by 12" above and 6" to the side

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Patio Doors

  • Step 1

    Find Width

Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8". Blind should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy. To ensure easy access through the door and allow adequate overlap, consider the stack width. To calculate stack dimensions, consult the Vane Count and Stack Size Chart.

  • Step 2

    Find Height

Measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8". Blind should extend at least 3" above opening or window moulding. For ceiling-to-floor installations, deduct 1/2" for proper clearance. Specifying Outside Mount measurement means the factory makes no allowances.

Vane Count and Stacking Chart

To Use This Chart: Use the appropriate column for One Way or Split Draw blinds. Find the width that you need to clear under the column marked "Clear Opening." Order the blind size listed at the far left. Split Draw blinds must have an even number of vanes.
